Moving to WordPress

This post is just to say that I'm moving my blog to WordPress. I plan on writing a post about why I've chosen to make the change once I've become a bit more settled in! Anyway here's the new blog.
Anyway I hope you'll come and visit me over there sometime and  if you want any motivation I can promise you more posts including one (coming soon!) including this amusing piece of Victorian advertising
... And of course many other posts on a range of topics.
See you there then!

New Blog Alert!

Hello.
Welcome.
I've thought about starting this blog for a long time. I've planned... I've planned to plan... I think I've probably even planned to plan to plan. So now writing this at midnight on a July night which just happens to be too warm to sleep in may seem a little odd. Really I just want to get this thing started and, by doing so, give myself a forceful kick in the right direction before I abandon the idea altogether. While browsing through the internet in search of a blog name which was not already taken I found so many blogs which had just been abandoned after just a few posts many years ago or even without any content. It made me realise that I don’t want this blog to end up that way without even trying.

Anyway I suppose you may be wondering at this stage what I’m even doing on this blog. You must be still reading for something, right? Well maybe you just reckon it’d be more effort to close the page than to continue reading. That happens to me sometimes! Either I’ll try to tell you what I’m doing here. First and foremost I’m starting this blog as a place to post my creative writing: the receive feedback and so to improve. In reality in order to keep my writing at a good enough standard and, more importantly, constantly improving I may well not be able to post fiction as often as I would like. So, in order to keep myself and any audience I may build up interested, I will try to vary the creative writing posts with other content. For an example, and maybe a little taster of things to come, I’m including a few photographs which I’ve taken here. They may not be amazing but photography, like writing, is something I would like to improve through this blog.
If any of this sounds interesting to you please follow my blog or its twitter or facebook account where I will keep you updated about new posts and you will be able to give me feedback about what you would like to see. Thanks for reading!

Until next time...

How Sweet to be a Cloud|Photo Post

Clouds with bright sun

Clouds with trees

So clouds? Oh those white or gray fluffy things in the sky which we have way to many of in England! Yes. Exactly. Those things. And maybe this is a bit of a dull thing to have a whole post about. Honestly, I've never really been one to take in what the clouds are doing at any given time and I'm certainly not one to understand what that demonstrates scientifically or in terms of the weather. At this point you can just stop reading and look at the pictures if you want but I just want to write a few things about why on earth I'm filling my new blog with pictures of clouds.
Dramatic clouds
Light clouds over Suffolk sea

Its really been a combination of two things:
Its mainly just been taking more interest in photographing what I see has naturally lead me to notice, and therefore try to capture, more detail in the world and particularly in those parts of it which we tend to ignore because we see them so much.
Contrasting coloured clouds
White fluffy clouds over hedge

The second thing, and the thing which made me want to actually compile these pictures into a post was watching Whiskey Galore. 'Wait what does an amusing Ealing Comedy about a Whiskey-obsessed fictional, scottish Island have to do with posting pictures of clouds on the internet?' you ask. Or you do if you've watched it (if not you certainly won't regret watching it now and doing so may considerably improving your quality of life). The black and white clouds (combined with the beautiful Scottish scenery) brought out the contrast of the clouds and made me wonder what pictures I could take of clouds. I wanted to insert the picture in Whiskey Galore where I thought the clouds were most effective but I haven't been able to find an image of it. Anyway to demonstrate my point about black and white clouds I'm putting two of my pictures into black and white here:

Hope you enjoyed the pictures. If you didn't you could tell me what you'd like to see improved in the comments below. If you did and would like to see more from me you can subscribe receive my posts by email ( in > direction!), or follow my twitter or like my facebook page to keep updated.
Until next time...

"At the going down of the sun and in the morning" | Photo Post

Going through some recent photographs of the same area at sunset and in the morning I was struck both by the beauty of the light at each time of day. For myself I love the infinite potential which morning can seem to offer and so I see that reflected the the clarity of the light in the morning. I don't want to write too much here so I'll let you take the pictures as you will:

As always your comments and advice would be much appreciated.
Until next time...
P.S. I am currently working on a couple of creative writing pieces for this blog but naturally enough those posts will take longer to develop so we can both look forward to that but I hope you enjoy this kind of post in the meantime.
